JUNGLE CHILD PROGRAM

THE YOUTH SHELTER

The shelter, is located in a corner of the Peruvian rainforest in Quellouno-Quillabamba. It is home to 32 young people from the most faraway places that have no schooling center. The students live in the shelter during the school year from April to December. Due to the fact that women from the countryside or native women have certain difficulties for training and studies, we dedicate a special interest to the promotion and host of female students who come from the poorest families of the area.

The House offers the community youth a place for living, studying and training, so that they can develop their abilities and potentials in order to serve their community in a responsible and creative way. In the House there is a brotherly and mutually supportive coexistence that supports the formation of values and the spaces for participation help them feel as participants in their education.

The fraternal coexistence, the sharing of goods, helping each other and living as a family is a challenge to all.

Our goal is to provide support and personal assessment, both with regard to their studies and their human growth, through creating studying and investigation habits, broaden their knowledge, discover their values, experience reliance in themselves and develop personal abilities, skills and qualities. To achieve all this, there are activities in school reinforcement, crafts workshops and the active participation of the library. We also take care of the organization, order and discipline as elements that help build the necessary human attitudes and values for a normal living together, established itineraries for studying, rooms that are shared with fellow students, study hall, kitchen, dining room and library.

The House has only three assistants for all the young people. For this reason we request the selfless assistance of volunteers with whose collaboration we hope to create a coordinating and responsible team able to accompany them in the process of personal integration, organization and development.

The House cannot support the expenses that a volunteer generates. For this reason he will have to make a payment of $30 dollars per day that cover his complete food and lodging. In addition we need a minimum stay of 15 days, with no maximum limitation.

We cook with firewood as we lack the resources for a stove and gas.

We cook with firewood, we are aware of that we cut trees.
